Bencho^ （1162-1238）， styled Ben'a 辨阿; the founder of the Chinzei 镇西 school of Japanese Pure Land Buddhism. He was a disciple of Ho^nen 法然， and due to his extensive writing and work in the establishment of temples， is considered to be the second major figure in the Pure Land school after Ho^nen.
