A transliteration of the Sanskrit kalinga-raja （"evil king"）， also written in Chinese as 恶王. King Kalinga was an evil king of the distant past gradually dismembered S/a^kyamuni （in an earlier incarnation） in order to test his power of endurance. Kalinga is mentioned in the Diamond Sutra， but the full story is contained in earlier Pali materials.
