"Southern Buddhism." The line of transmission of Buddhism through south Asia after the time of King A/soka. This transmission proceeded from southern India and Sri Lanka （Ceylon）， to Burma （Myanmar）， Thailand and Cambodia. The predominant doctrinal strain of this transmission was Therava^da/Nikaya （部派） tradition， which bases its teachings on the Pali Canon.
