The three part a syllogism in the New School of Buddhist logic. These are: pratijn~a^ (宗), the proposition; hetu (因), the reason; and uda^harana (喻) the example. The older school had used a five-part syllogism (wuzhizuofa 五支作法), but from the time of Digna^ga, the five part syllogism was considered unnecessary and the three part syllogism was used.
