FISH

A wooden gong used in Buddhist temples carved in the shape of a long fish. Like a fish which never closes its eyes even in sleep, monks and nuns should cultivate hard and never let their guard down.

"In Buddhism, fish, since they never (close their eyes even in) sleep, symbolize the resiliency and wakefulness necessary on the path to Buddhahood."
